RE: Ham Question

Attending a FORMAL class is the BEST way to proceed. However, if passing the test is your ONLY objective, then get the ARRL Technician flash cards. In each of the 4 answers, there will be one word or piece of text that is unique. Highlight this and memorize it. When you take the test, this unique word or phrase will jump out at you. As you are proceeding with the flash cards, take the on line test occasionally at www.qrz.com to track your progress. You will be amazed at how fast you make progress. Naturally, curiosity will often times make you want to research the reason for the correct answer by conventional research (grin)
Only start the flash cards about a week before the test to keep the information current in your mind. Keep about 20-30 cards with you at all times to study during meals, breaks or traffic jams.......
Typical total study time using the flash cards will be about 25 hours.
I repeat, this procedure is for passing the test only, not properly learning about ham radio.

RE: Need suggestions for overnight near Emporia, VA

The Super Wal-Mart in Emporia is great. I-95 Exit 11A 303 Market Dr Use the upper parking lot away from the store. A Cracker Barrel is a short walk away as are some chain restaurants. The Yogi Bear CG is also excellent.

RE: Spare tire

I carry a mounted, trued and balanced spare in the compartment Fleetwood provided for that purpose. Also in that compartment are tools, fluids and a complete set of spare filters. I'm not strong enough to change a tire myself but Good Sam ERS is.

RE: Who are the "no pets allowed" parks?

I have had the very unique ability to always end up next to a RV with yappy dogs in a CG. My solution is to stay where quiet is available. My favorite CG in Cape May doesn't allow pets which I prefer. I'm neither a dog lover or a dog hater and I'll pet and scratch, say a Golden for hours. But, in the morning at 5 AM, I don't want to awake to yappy dogs as has been too often the case. My solution when traveling cross country is to not stop at a CG unless necessary. My worst experience was at the Pointe South, SC KOA where my neighbor had 11 dogs in a cage outside my window. Yes, the staff was aware of the dogs as they walked thru the area frequently. The dogs owner had to move about 150 feet away to use their cell phone as the noise level was extreme.

RE: Air Dryer Filters Replacement

It took me about 45 minutes. It was easier for me to disconnect the lines and drop the entire filter housing to change the filter. I ordered the filter from Freightliner. I can't remember the cost-maybe $109.00?

RE: Success or failure: help from the manufacturer

Instant great support from Fleetwood. Requested electrical schematics and they were emailed in just a few minutes. Hard copies were received by snail mail a few days later. Within a few minutes of receiving the emailed schematics, my electrical problem was traced to a dimple switch on the inverter not being in the correct position.

RE: Electric blankets OK for RVs--Sunbeam says NO

I've been using newer Sunbeam heated mattress pads for years. No problems running them on the inverter. I like getting getting into a nice warm bed plus I leave it set on low heat all night.

RE: Pulling a toad

Only when stopping for a lot of lights do I notice a difference in mileage towing a 7100 pound truck. Out on the Interstate I don't see much of a difference. This is with a Cat towing a Cummins (grin)
